1ViLLAGE is making unprecedented strides in bringing technology solutions to under-resourced communities in the developing world to promote rapid socio-economic development. We work with development organizations, companies and individuals who desire to introduce Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) components into their projects, as well as, on self-initiated research and technological projects. Our experience in designing, developing, and implementing ICT solutions in harsh rural conditions, coupled with our knowledge of the challenges in such areas, has made us a critical technology partner for companies, NGOs, governments, international organisations and other ICT4D enterprises working in Africa.

Mission:
1ViLLAGE is registered in Ghana (West Africa) to provide ICT for Development services and undertake research especially on the African continent. Our mission is to empower communities with appropriate ICTs that provide and ensure sustainable development. The passion of 1ViLAGE is to increase access to ICT tools and knowledge to ensure the unconnected are connected.
Who we are:
A social enterprise addressing community development needs with appropriate, affordable and sustainable ICTs. Our team comprise of local and international professionals with extensive knowledge to deal with both theoretical and practical IT settings.
What we do:
We design, develop, deploy and provide technical support for appropriate ICT solutions that address community ICT needs. We do this through our "4D" approach.

Executive Director

Kafui A. Prebbie is a technology enterpreneur with long history of activism in ICTs for Development internationally. Amongst others, he has consulted and contributed into the activities of many organisations including the prestigious Commonwealth of Learning, Canada; International Institute for Communications and Development, Netherlands; Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation, The Netherlands; Inveneo Inc., USA; Winrock International, USA; tt30 -Young Think Tank of the Club of Rome, Italy; the International Telecommunication Union, and the World Youth Caucus of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), both in Geneva. As Executive Director of 1ViLLAGE Ltd., his development agenda revolves around research and applications of new media/technologies in developing regions. He was the lead of a Ghana team involved in an 18-month European Union Funded project, the Digital World Forum on Accessible and Inclusive ICTs . Kafui also maintains a site at www.kafui.com.

Information Technologist

Jacob B. Odame is an enthusiastic believer in the new model of using ICTs to promote socio-economic development. Jacob develops strategic ICT partnerships for 1ViLLAGE. He also conducts field assessments, research and deployments for 1ViLLAGE-related projects. He has interests in Wireless networking, low-cost technologies, free and open source software, and building sustainable business models around community-owned projects. He has been involved in the Wireless Africa research project funded by International Development Research Center, Canada.

eGovernment Specialist

Ahmed Meyaki is an eGovernment expert with a Master of Science in eGovernment from Sweden, and a Bachelors degree in International Business from Finland. He currently works at the information society unit of the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities where the majority of national as well as EU-related innovations in eGovernment are planned and implemented. This makes him firmly grounded in the transformation process government agencies and private businesses are going through, and the role of technology in these changes. Ahmed's research and work related activities in eGovernance have mostly been in the fields of Public- Private Partnerships in ICT for Development, FOSS for eGov, ICT advocacy and Gov 2.0.

His other competencies include assessing the effectiveness of technology in solving government and governance problems; applying scientific knowledge related to change and ICT use to strategic and operational problem solving in government organizations; nowledge of how information is created and used in organizational processes and how these processes can be managed and improved; Rich multicultural and language skills from studying and working in different countries, plus a rich network of international contacts; and ability to work in a team with project management skills in both virtual and physical environments. Ahmed is active in facilitating business opportunities and knowledge transfer between the Nordic and Africa

Strategic Partnerships Officer

Margaret McKenna is an accomplished technology consultant with diverse experiences across retail, advertising, finance, and emerging markets. She comes to 1ViLLAGE having been involved in numerous ICTD projects both in Ghana and in the U.S. In addition to her work connecting technology organisations and local NGOs on the ground in Ghana, she is also the co-founder of a mobile health startup in Cambridge, MA focused on developing world eye care. Her expertise lies in identifying the strategic convergence of NGO and government agendas with appropriate technology implementations. Margaret received her B.A. from Columbia University.

Network & Energy Technologist

Victor Zokli is a devoted individual committed to excellence on the job and love challenges. He is a solution-oriented IT and Energy Systems Specialist, with notable success in directing a broad range of corporate IT initiatives, while participating in design, planning and implementation of information-security solutions in direct support of business objectives. Working in this field for over a decade now, Victor has gathered enormous practical experience and is highly resourceful and creative when it comes to improvisation in solving problems in computer, electrical and electronic applications. He also has broad experience in various power solutions and leads 1ViLLAGE when it comes to providing power solutions to clients including solar.

Andrews Kofi Nyarkoh is an information technologist with extensive knowledge in computer hardware and networking; Wiki content creation; and an Inveneo certified engineer. He has been involved in implementing many ICT for Development related projects that involve the installations long range wireless newtorks and mesh networking nodes; installation and provision of technical support for computing systems and low-power technolgies; Voice over IP set ups and ICT capacity building session for Open Educational Resources Content creation for the Commonwealth of Learning, Canada. on the WikiEducator open platform.
